Default Tranny problem?

I have a 98 blazer 4dr 4wd 4.3, push button 4wd, I was on the way home from work the other day and it drove fine but when I stopped at a store and came back out, cranked it and started to drive off reverse worked fine but when I shifted to drive it started to move and then " skipped a beat" and slammed into gear and wouldnt go over 35 so I drove it home and began reading your forums. I'm not sure if it's in limp mode but the only code I get is a small evap leak. I have power at the white wire going to and through fuse 24. Any help is appreciated as the name says I'm a blazer dummy this is the first one I've ever owned but I love it. I have a 97 Jimmy 4wd for parts but not sure if I should pull the trans at this time.

Have you checked the fluid level and condition? Did it shift at all on your way home after it acted up?

yes the level and condition appeared to be good and it seemed to shift at 25mph which would be to third but nothing after that

You can go ahead and drop the pan and see what’s in the bottom and on magnet and go from there. If fairly clean try changing out shift solenoids, if dirty let it drain awhile put pan back on and pull transmission. Either way pan has to come off.
