Default trans went one month and 1000 miles

Bought last month, our 2001 Blazer stranded my wife Saturday night: Reverse works, but none of the Forward gears transmit power to move the truck, not even 1st and 2nd. All we have working is reverse, and my wife heard a load pop as the truck started coasting...

Have not pulled codes yet but hope to tonight. Fluid is clean and at proper level, and the trans was shifting smoothly until it broke down. We did not notice the infamous, swinging-tach needle problem.

Any ideas re what components may be affected, and if they may be the type that can be owner-serviced and self-repair? Is this a familiar breakdown with this vehicle and tranny?

Thanks folks. I am predicting I need a full rebuild or replacement transmission... and am bummed we just bought the truck last month!
