Default Transfercase loses oil!

Hi Guys!

I'm new here and i'm from Germany, please excuse, if my english is not that good.
I'm about to buy a used M-1009 from an friend of mine.
The problem is, that the tranfercase loses it's oil at the driving shaft seal of the rear axle driving shaft
Will it be a lot to fix this problem?
What is to be done? Do i have to remove and dismantle the complete transfercase and the transmission?

Thanks a lot for your replies and best regards!!! :-)

thats pretty common for all these trucks. its not really that big of a deal. just take off the four little bolts holding the driveshaft to the axle then slide the driveshaft out. that seal is just pressed in there. so pry it out yank it out do whatever to get it out and pop a new one in. just dont get to crazy that case is aluminum try not to crack it.

also what can happen sometimes too is the front seal on the transfercase can go bad causing the transmission to leak fluid into the transfercase. i had that problem before causing excess fluid to come out that seal. but yeah start with the obvious one first.

also for future reference might want to call it a k5 blazer along with a m1009. dont think to many people are familiar with the military versions. great truck though. i had one for a few years also. traded it for a m1008
