The cooler in the radiator is an effective cooler, why take it out of the loop?
That should answer your questions.

Uh... Spoke to soon. Now Im really confused.

Fitting Location Thread Size Flow Direction
Upper ¼" Pipe Return/in
Lower ¼" Pipe Cooler feed/out
Also http://www.txchange.com/cooler.htm

Let me explaine... Somebody mucked with my truck before it was mine... I had a buddy replace the trans ghetto style... My rad cooler was bypassed... and I am trying to put it back together the right way... what i want is to do this...

transmission>>rad-cooler>>ext-cooler>>ext-filter>>transmission

thing is... the way it is now, i believe the lower line is pushing the fluid. just trying to get my head on straight!

The differences noted in the further information you find lie in where you are looking. I was speaking of the factory connections at the radiator while your references seem to be speaking of the lines on the transmission...
