Default Transmission Problems...

I searched all over for this, I just really need to know if my transmission is about to explode.

No noise in P,N
Doesn't seem to happen in 1 or 2nd. Possibly 3rd and definitely 4th.
The noise is like a whining but it is most prominent on the highway and I take my foot off the pedal, and there a whine/groan until the rpm's drop, then its gone while I coast.
If I step on the pedal again the groan/whine come back until the rpms match the trans speed I think.

I was thinking it has something to do with the torque converter, but I it seems to be getting worse. I just wish i knew if it was the converter or the transmission, leaning towards torque converter but what exactly could be causing it.

No problem. I moved it more for your benefit than anything else. I just didn't want to see your problem get overlooked because it was in an informational thread.

Are you having this problem in the vehicle you have in your 'garage', the '82 GMC Jimmy?

Yeah, its my 82 Jimmy.

It does have a 6.0 Vortec now though but I don't think thats the issue but the installation of it is probably related.

What does it have for a transmission and how is it being controlled? Originally it could have had a TH350 or 700R4... If it was a 700R4, I hope it was upgraded!

I want to think its the torque converter because the noise occurs when the engine and trans are not spinning in sync.

However then it should also happen in 1st gear?
