Exclamation Transmission question.

Hello every one..
I have a question about the transmission in my 1998 blazer 4dr 4x4. The transmission is a 4l60E, some info one the vehicle. I got it used and the transmission that was in it was bad, all it had was 1st, 2nd, and R. So I put another transmission in it and it runs great, just one small problem , well I am hoping it is a small problem...
When I am driving and I am anywhere from 45 to 60 mph there is a vibration that come's and goes. If I hit the brakes just enuff to kick it out of over drive it stop the vibration and if I put the sifter down into 3rd it doesn't do it. So I am guessing that this means it's my torque converter.
If this is my problem will it hurt my transmsission, and will the torque converter give out on me or what will happin.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It's sounds like whoever put your tranny in didn't center the torque converter when they bolted it to your flexplate, some flexplates have oblong holes so if you dont get the torque converter centered on the flexplate that could be causing the vibration

Also I know first hand that driving in 3rd gear on the freeway will only cause you more serious problems in the long run

How bad is the vibration? If you had the transmission replaced at a shop I would definetely bring it back to them, If you did it yourself then I guess you have some work ahead of you

Another thing to think about is that you mentioned that the previous tranny didn't shift into Over drive so this vibration you are feeling may have been a previous problem that isn't even related to the new tranny

Just my .02

Tou are right it coulld be something else.. But what I have no idea what it could be. And yes I put the tranny in myself.. So should I take the starter off and take one bolt out of the torque converter and loosen the rest up and try to center it if it isn't centered.. But if that is the problem then why is it only ding it in that mph rang and off and on...
It's not a real bad vibration, it's just enuff that you can feel it.

I highly doubt that your torque converter and flex plate are misaligned.

Did you install a new torque converter?

You may have torque converter shudder. Next time it happens, just tap the brakes enough to turn on the brake lights, but not enough to slow you down. See if that changes the vibration.

It's torque converter shudder then.

Have you tried any additives in the transmission fluid? Lucas Trans Fix?

Sooner or later the torque converter will likely just not lock up. When that happens, it will set a code.
