Default Transmission question

Found a 95 with low mileage and a nice low price. Problem is I am un sure about the tranny. Guy claims it has been doing this since time eternal but I just feel concerned. It drives out good, plenty of power, no slipping no hesitation at any speed except when you first put it into drive. In reverse there is no problem. When you first put it into drive it takes about a second before you feel it kick in. There is no noise just the slight delay. I have a 96 and it doesn't have this problem. Can anyone give me an idea of what might cause this please and the fix? I had an 88 Jimmy with the same problem and the transmission shop had me replace the cable from the throttle to the tranny and then they adjusted it. Took almost every bit of the delay out. But on the newer models I have been told there is no adjustment or cable. Does anybody know about this?

RUN. 95,a odd year. with problematic transmission? and this ones having issues? Keep in mind. its a one year only deal. Id look elsewhere. Also, your 88 had a 700r4,which has a cable thats "not" adjustable. its for line pressure.once set,it must not be touched.
