Default transmission and speedo problems

Recently had a problem with my automatic transmission in my 2000 chevy blazer LS. The speedo stopped working and the car would only drive in second gear. The Brake warning lamp on the dash was coming on with this problem as well. The problem was intermittant at first and the mechanic couldn't find the problem, so $80 later they put it down to a loose electrical plug. A week later the problem reappeared permenantly. This time they found that the wiring between the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) and the computer was faulty. Another $150 and the problem is solved. Good to note that the car was still drivable in some sort of limp mode so we were able to drive (slowly) to the mechanic.
