Default Transmission/Transfer Case Fit

I have a 1998 Blazer 4x4 4.3 with a bad trans. It had the removable bellhousing with 8 bolts or so. I bought an trans out of a 95 blazer 4 wheel drive with a 6 bolt 1 piece trans. The transfer case from my 98 wont fit onto the 95 trans. Which year transfer case will fit on my 95 transmission?

Get the proper transmission. You never want to go backwards in transmissions. '95 is a transition year for changes and it may not be compatible from a functional standpoint.

And if your transfer case has the Auto4wd option, then you will not be pleased with the amount of work involved with swapping it out for a different transfer case that will keep the rest of your truck happy.

The transmission and transfer case are designed to act as one complete system, and even share the same automatic transmission fluid. The transfer case used with this transmission is not a type that lower gears can be put into, instead it is chain driven.

Not entirely correct on multiple accounts. There are several transfer cases that will fit on a 4wd 4L60E. There are a few different transfer case adapters that may be able to be swapped around to mate the current transfer case up to the 95 transmission.

The transmission and transfer case do not share fluid. In some cases (231 & 233) they may use the same type of fluid, but by no means all cases especially when talking about a '98 where it could have the NV233 or the NV236. The NV236 requires GM Autotrak 2 fluid.

I'm not sure where the lower gears comment came from...

Nor I, however you can get kits to change the gears to a 4-1 ratio.

Exactly, that's what the mechanic told me, trans and transfer case do not share fluid. But why the case is considered in 231 & 233 is one thing my mechanic didn't elaborate on.
