Default Transmission will not shift into any gear.

This is for a 97 Blazer with a 4L60E. During the engine swap I changed the torque converter with a remanufactured one from Trans Star. A buddy of mine said that I had to run the shifter from park to first a few times to circulate fluid through the transmission. After doing that I had to add about 5 quarts to get it where it should be. But the next time I started the engine to drive around the lot, the truck didnt go into gear, any gear it doesnt even try to pull forward a little bit when I put it in drive. There are no codes that popped up with this problem and no wierd noises.

Any guesses? Bad torque converter?

I dropped the pan to check the fluid condition and found that it was dark looking in color. There were small metal particles stuck to the magnet and a few peices of metal like shavings as well.

My question is, would burning up a torque converter explain the color and shavings. The fluid and filter were changed before the engine blew up.

Second, Ive starting prepping the engine for removal once again. I just need to lift it out. My next question is should I try a new torque converter? Or, just get a new transmission?

Thanks guys.

Really depends on what the line pressure is. Did the fluid level stabilize after you put that fluid in? A torque converter can hold more than 5 qts of fluid.

What do you mean by line pressure and how do you test it. After it warmed up the fluid level stayed pretty constant on the stick. I suppose ive jumped the gun though by getting ready to yank the engine again.
