Default Transmission won't shift at times.

I have a 96 blazer 4x4.
Ok this is what I'm having problems with. As soon as I turn the ignition key to KOEO I notice the small orange indicator light under P R N OD D 1 2 does not come on. Everything else works though. Cycle the key a couple times then the indicator comes on. When it doesn't come on feels like it's starting 3 gear and stays there and does not shift. But as soon as I cycle the key and it comes on it shifts like champ. Did notice it dims sometimes though. Has anybody dealt with that? If so let me know please and thanks in advance.

I believe that the dash indicator is powered by the Neutral switch bolted on the side of the transmission, I have never heard of it limiting shifts. Manifold Pressure Switch inside the transmission can. I would dig up a wiring diagram for the dash indicator and see where the signal comes from. most inexpensive scan tools will not communicate with the transmission side of the PCM. you will need a OTC Nemisys or better scan tool to look at the MPS.
