Default Transmission wows

I took my 99 Balzer s10 to the transmission shop today for a clanking rattling sound. I thought it was a loose torque bolt or mabey a cracked flex plate. I got a call from them a couple of minutes ago and they told me that the sound is definately internal. And having to break open the trans that it was going to cost $2200. The blazer is less than a year old and I payed $3000 for it. Other than the sound its good. Its not my only driver. I think it is time to cut my loss. Oh yea, does the price sound to high for overhauling the transmission?

I would recommend you get a second opinion unless you really trust this shop.

Sounds about normal for a transmission rebuild. You could get a used transmission for quite a bit cheaper.

I took the Blazer to a 2nd. Transmission shop. The guy that owns the shop test drove the Blazer while asking a ton of questions. He asked how long the sound has been there. I told him 6 months. He had stated that 6 months is a long time for a transmission to make a noise and not brake. He said that what he would do is take the starter off and check the end play of the drive gear. It should not move hardly at all. So....this what I'm going to do. I'll keep you posted.
