VSS Help

Curious as to if anyone knows exactly where the Vehicle Speed Sensor(VSS) is located on a 2000 2wd Blazer. Just bought a new one and need to replace it.

Have been having some issues with Improper shifting and it staying in 2nd gear with no shifting/downshifting

Any help would be awesome, thanks in advance!

Your 2000 2WD has 3 sensors: One for each front wheel and one in the transmission extension housing. The PCM uses data from the one in the extension housing for determining several things, transmission shift points being one of them. If there's a problem with any of the sensors, or the wiring for them, a DTC, (Diagnostic Trouble Code) will be set and the SES, (Service Engine Soon) and/or ABS light will come on. No DTC's or SES light = sensors and wiring are working properly. If the transmission is hanging in 2nd gear, the problem might be a sticky shift solenoid in the transmission.

The lights come on and off randomly or at least it seems random to me as I don't know the exact issue. I could take it in for diagnostics but would that be worth it if the lights aren't on at the time. As there would be no codes to pull.

The lights come on and off randomly. Or at least it seems random to me as I do not know the exact reason it is doing this.

DTC's will remain in memory, even if the light goes off, for a certain number of drive cycles without a failure. The typical code scanner that the auto parts stores use to retrieve DTC's will not retrieve ABS DTC's, strictly powertrain codes, (engine & transmission). A more "sophistocated" scan tool must be used to retrieve ABS DTC's.
