Default What makes it roar?

Hi Guys,

When driving, my K5 produces a pretty nice purrr, it's loud, sexy and i love it! However when idling you can barely hear the engine running.
What can be done to make it a sexy idler? headers.. what else?

Thanks, Yarin.

Camshafts determine the performance characteristics of the engine from idle to red line. Sounds like you're looking for a cam with a lopey idle.

Thanks. From what I've been reading this can also be done with the right tuning. Is this possible in my case?

Just crank your idle screw up and let it idle at 1500 rpm and you will have your "sexy idle"!

You didn't mention what year or any specs on your truck so its hard to help you. As mentioned a lopey idle is the best way to get a nice sounding idle.

If you dont have a computer, you cant get a tune. And a screwdriver will do nothing. You would need headers and the right exhaust. And a cam would help

My k5 is 90, 5700 - most of the components in the engine compartment are stock as far as i know.
I have a custom muffler which gives out a nice sound but the thing is that the exhaust piping is merged into one, meaning i don't have two separate lines running out of each exhaust outlet, someone along the history of the car merged them right at the exit.

By theory - if i can get a computer to plug in to the truck.. what exactly am i looking for this tuning procedure?

The truck has to have its own ECM , (computer), your doesn't. You can't do what you want

sorry my mistake, didnt look at the year. Anyway , without modifying intake, exhaust, cam etc. a tune will do very little
