Ok I need to replace the a/c compressor in my 1997 chevy blazer 4x4 v6 she leaks and does not hold the freeze at all so what am lookin at as far price and time on this puppy? but it does run cold if you fill it problem is the stuff runs out after 24hrs. and I have to recharge it.

Mine does the same thing, the compressor hasn't failed but it leaks at what appears to be where the two halves of the compressor were pressed together. What I would do(if your doing it yourself) is go to a shop and tell them to suck out the freon but don't recharge it (just trying to be green) there should be just one bolt holding the lines on the top, take that out and plug the lines with something to minimize water entering the system. Then it's just taking the belt off and the mounting bolts. To be really technical you should empty and measure the PEG oil from the compressor and make sure the new one has the same amount of oil in it when you install the new one. Have the new (or junkyard donor) on hand to minimize water entering the system, another good idea is to change the seals on the lines going into the compressor and the shrader valves on the high and low side of the AC lines (auto parts store should have those dirt cheap) the bolt holding the lines coming out of the compressor doesn't recquire alot of torque so don't go crazy.

also, when you remove the bolts to pull the compressor off the rack. The bolts wont slide out. but if you look at the heads of the bolts you will see one side of each head is cut flat. that'll help you with a small pry bar..I spent 2 hours trying to get mine off and i used a cutting wheel and cut the bolts out (had a bypass pulley to put in i wasnt worried about it" and after all said and done i noticed the flat sides of the bolts...I wanted to shoot myself. lol

LOL out Chris I will take your advice and take to a shop to have them completly empty the system I think I will also have them do a leak test as well on just to make sure it is leaking in the same place as yours is. I was told all this without a leak test on it. so I am a bit weary of the whole compressor not saying it is not but you know how shops can be on marked up parts I am buying my own compressor too I am looking at a 4 seasons that comes complete I was told by the store I could litterally take it and have everything sucked out and take the old off and put the new on and be done oil already in it and everything 257.00 for it sound good to you?

Why tell someone to pay someone to remove freon from their A/C that has already leaked our?

Remember, he said in 24 hours it no longer cooled.

Save your money, and skip that step.

I replace my A/C compressor about 3 years back myself, did not pull vacuum on it, works great to this day. I've did it this way on 3 other cars I've owned, all of them worked great.

It might work for you, it might not.

Im confused,257.00 for them to replace it completely and charge it? Its not hard. Since its all leaked out you dont need to drain it. Just pull it off,put the working one on,recharge with the r124 that includes oil and your fine. Although im paranoid about ac,i had a high side to blow once. Once you get everything charged have someone check the pressures etc.

No 257 for just the compressor I found online. I am sure they will charge 300 to put it in that is why i am lookin to do this myself. but am afraid I will not be able to and mess it up I have never done anything before other than oil changes I am female not to limit myself but I am trying to learn as much as I can off of all you I sure wish some of you lived close to me in Nebraska so I could have you do it and pay you instead
