Hi-- I am owner of an 1987 K5 blazer w 350 V8, 700-R4 automatic, NP208 transfer case, and automatic locking hubs. I am getting a whining/whirring/grinding noise from the right front end (especially after running in 4H and shifting back out to 2H. I am thinking that the hub is not disengaging all the way? Sometimes backing up fast for 50 ft will fix it, but not always. I think? that putting Warn manual locking hubs on it may fix the problem. Is there anything I need to know about my front axle (I think it is a GM corporate 10-bolt) before I order to get the correct Warn Hubs for my truck? And do you think that will fix my problem? Thanks.

 

its possible. when youre in 4wheel drive it makes that noise due to all that stuff spinning, if its staying locked it could cause that.

what you can try if you want is just take the auto hubs off and go drive it to see if that eliminates the problem, the tires wont fall off or anything, the bearings will be exposed though so dont go driving in the rain or anything.

also for some reason everytime ive tried to buy manual hubs they try to sell you some installation kit for some reason. i dont know what it is or why you would need it, you just toss out the autohubs and install the manuals. autohubs were always the first thing to go in the trash when i bought a new k5

 

Throw on some Warn manual hubs. Problem fixed. The factory auto hubs become problematic due to the fact that no one pulls them off every 30,000 miles to re-grease them (like the owner's manual recommends.)
