1989 K5 Blazer 4hi problem.
I recently purchased a 1989 K5 Blazer with Warn manual front locking hubs. Today was the first time we needed to put the vehicle into 4 wheel drive. In 4 high the truck pulls erratically from side to side. When slowing to a stop I can hear the front drivers side tire start to bind and drag the tire. Not sure if the passenger side tire is doing the same thing but I don't believe it is because the truck pulls to the left when this happens. Any suggestions to diagnose are any ideas of what the problem is would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I'm wondering if someone has swapped out either one of the axles over the past 40 years of use and mis-matched the gear ratios. You will want to get the truck up in the air and verify the axle ratios by either pulling the covers & counting the teeth (or finding the numbers stamped into the ring gears) or by rotating the driveshafts & counting the number of turns of the driveshaft for every full rotation of both wheels.
Let us know what you find for the front & rear axle ratios.
