Default 78 K5 Electric Tailgate

So im having some issues with my tailgate, i went to do the window up last night and it stopped 3/4 of the way and thats all she wrote. It would go down, so i left it down for the night. Motor was tired so i bought a new one and threw it in today, i still need to replace the switch. Anyway all i did today was pop the tailgate down, take off the motor and replace it. Now the stupid window wont even come all the way out before it jams up on something. But thats another story ill get that figured out, everything thing in there is rusty and dirty so ill have to do some cleaning next weekend when i have some time.

Anyway onto my real question there is this wierdly bent bar inside there thats attached to a sping, i noticed it flopping around attached to nothing, the spring is somewhere middle center then the bar looks like it attachs to this little plastic clip that would be at the bottom of the tailgate on the inside. Im just curious if anyone knows what this is if it actually does anything because as far as i can tell it doesnt look like it does anything useful. I looked in the LMC catalogue and i dont even see it in there as a replacement part. If it would help i can take a picture of the bar itself in the next day or two.

Looking through the glass it looks like the regulator is all dirty and could use a cleaning any tips or things i should be aware of if i decide to take the whole thing apart and refurb/clean up the inner workings?

The bent rod controls the downward movement . I believe it aids the stopping of the glass . You need to remove the rubber outer top strips on each side of the glass . The stopping I am guessing is it bottom of the glass is hitting the motor . If yopu have somebody push in on the glass while going up it should go up . I am also guessing the side rails in the gate are wore out too . Just my 2 cents

Well after many hours of research i actually found what that stupid bar is for, so i just thought i would share the knowlege in case anyone else ever wanted to know.

It is the mechanism that prevents you from opening your tailgate unless the window is fully down. So for me im not putting that back in as i don't even have the key to open it from the outside, so without my window down i cant open it anyways unless i crawl all the way in the back and use the latch on the inside :P

clean the regulator slide. make sure they are not cracked , bent or rusted in 2. use lithium grease or some other grease to lubricate it. if you want the motor to run faster run lower gauge wiring too it. i ran like 10 gauge to mine and it made a big difference. i have an old motor in it too
