92 k5 blazer rear end problem...can i ?
My rear differential went put in my 92 k5 blazer last weekend. Since this is my only source of transportation and I can't afford the 400 dollars for a replacement, I was wondering if there is any way I could delete the rear driveshaft and remove the internals on the rear differential for short term and use 4wd high to get me around locally. I know this could be potentially be hard on my four wheel drive components since I'm essentially turning my blazer into a front wheel drive, but is it possible? Any advice would be great, thanks!

You can... But more than likely it will end up breaking something else that will then end up costing you more than $400 to fix.... Buck up and spend the cash to get it fixed right the first time. Borrow the money if you have to... Better to borrow the $400 now than to break something else in a month and end up borrowing $1,000 or worse selling the blazer for parts and ending up in a Geo Metro.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Even though it's an inconvenience, I'm just going to let it sit until I can afford to fix it. Hopefully by next weekend I can buy the new rearend and get it back on the road. I appreciate the reply. I'll keep u posted on how it all works out.

eh, cant really remove the internals, cause they hold the axleshafts in place, if it was a pinion that was bad you can possibly remove that but its so much to tear all that crap apart just to put it back together and also need lube in there to keep the axle bearings lubricated. see if you can find a junkyard one for a hundred or something cheap on craigslist
