It's been most of 5 years since Ive done any major work after two years of extreme rebuilds and replacements on both vehicles so Ive gotten rusty and lazy!

I had done a major driveline remanufacture on both trucks but badly screwed the K5 clutch linkage up as Id never worked on one that was correct and knew little about it. Those problems led to the clutch never disengaging and that made hard shifts and clutch and plate / flywheel damage.

Don't feel bad. When I bought my K5, the previous owner had done a 4-speed conversion on it and never gotten to drive it because he couldn't get the clutch to work. Eventually, out of frustration, he sold the thing (cheap). Turns out the clutch disk was in backwards.

That could end badly if the springs hit the flywheel screws!

It goes to show how difficult it can be to work on anything without a good manual for reference..

They did hit. I have no idea what the guy went through before he decided to sell it.

And a manual is a good thing to have, for sure. But every clutch disk I've ever seen has been labeled "flywheel side", so he really had no excuse.
