Default Factory roof rack

I posted about this a long time ago but eventually gave up my search.. But i think i finally found one and have a couple questions before i give it a try. I have a 1994 Full Size Blazer and it has no roof rack. I found a 1997 Yukon GT which as we all know has the same body as the 1992-1999 full size blazers, yukon/tahoe 2dr etc. I know my roof does not already have any holes drilled into it for a rack. I also know that the roof rack on these trucks was screwed in from the bottom, not the top. So headliner removal is required. My question is, should i be able to remove the yukon rack and drill holes in my truck and put the rack on it? my concerns with the swap are: rust, how can i drill holes in my roof and install a rack and not have rust form all around my new holes. Also, im not sure if they roof supports are the same on the 1992-1994 as they were on the 1995-1999 2dr tahoes etc. I am not sure if the 1992-1994 blazers ever had roof racks, so maybe they reinforced the roof to add a roof rack to 1995-1999? thats it for concerns right now. Mostly wondering if you guys on here think it should a straight swap, just have to drill the holes and get to it?

I'm a little confused, as the yukons are more squared then the 2nd gen blazers, or do you have the first gen blazer? Either way, I believe the roof itself is wider and may not fit. For support, I'm not sure myself. Maybe an astro or safari van around the same width? Start by measuring and making sure you have some kind of clear mounting surfaces... for sealing, you will want to find a thinish rubber mat to go in between the rack and roof, and then make sure you put GOOD quality sealant IN the hole BEFORE the bolt goes in, this will fill the void between the bolt and the sides of the hole, helping to keep it sealed. Then cover the heads if you want. I did this method with my tire carrier, and haven't had any leaks. Been a couple of years now if I think correctly lol...

Not sure how I posted this on blazer forum, this was meant for gmt400.com. in a bit confused myself. This is my blazer. 1992-1994 it was called a blazer or a Jimmy. 1995-1999 it was called a Tahoe Sport or Yukon gt. I'm not sure if the blazers ever had a roof rack or not but I know the Tahoe 2 doors did. The body is identical. I don't know what variances there are under the headliner of the 1992-1994 vs 1995+. Could be the same, could be made stronger on the 95 up cause the addition of a rack. If anyone happens to know awesome, I didn't mean to post this question here so nbd if nobody knows. Thank u for the advice on keeping moisture out and stuff I will look into that if I actually get this project going.

I forgot about those years! I see now, should be about the same. And depending on what your putting on the rack, maybe a 1"×1/4" angle would be a good support to go from end to end. Always triple check before drilling tho. Go slow, put painters tape over the paint before drilling, and make sure all shaving are vacuumed, any left over will cause rust to start spotting on top of your paint.

My 94 Blazer has the factory rack. It is held in place by screws accessed from the top, not from inside. Also, I call the threaded holes, blind nuts. I’ve not had any rust issues with this mounting system.
Good Luck!
