Default Freeze plug heater

Hi all,

I have a 600 Watt lower radiator hose heater installed, but I think one installed into a cooling jacket through a freeze plug hole would work better. I don't remember seeing a freeze plug that looked convenient to use when I was under the truck. The front axle 4wd stuff is all in the way if I remember correctly. Any of you guys installed a frost plug heater, and if so which one and what did you have to do to make it possible? I guess if I have to remove one or both motor mount bolts and jack it up I could.

Why do you think that would work better?

Isn't your hose heater working?

IMHO
For freeze plug heaters you would need to figure out which freeze plug accepts the heater as the finger will extend into the water jacket between the cylinders.

I think it would work better because all the heat generated would be inside the confines of the engine block, not 8 inches away in a hose having to get into the engine through the water pump against a closed thermostat in the top of the engine. Also, people around here who have used both have all told me that the water jacket heaters do in fact work better.

Sounds right. Will probably depend on what you need. If it's to just prevent too low temperatures in the engine/radiator or if you want it warmed up good.

Yeah, I'd like it warmed up as much as possible.
