Default Gears

I have a 1990 GMC Jimmy with the stock axles and stock 3:42 gears. i am wanting to change them to 3:73 gears. The front is a dana 44 and the rear is a normal axle. Not sure exactly which one it is. I found a set on craigslist that came out of a stock 2008 Jeep wrangler UNlimited. i was wondering if they will work. they came out of a dana 44 rear and a dana 30 front.

Will they work in my GMC Jimmy.

the dana 30 carrier is smaller than ur dana 44 carrier. ul have to get a new carrier and gears. i happen to have a set for dana 44 front and rear with 3:55. but im in washington state. and they arent much lower then what u have. but u can find them cheap enough. ur rear end is probably a stock chevy 10 bolt.....i too have a carrier for that. lol. if i can help i will, but idk if its a hassle or not. so ul need new carriers for 3:73 and numerically higher if u wanna change to those gears, and gears..... unless u get hooked up on craigslist, i love craigslist.

The rear is a stock 10 bolt and the front is a 10 bolt dana 44.

Are you sure that the front is a Dana 44? Stock would be a GM Corp 10-bolt front & rear.

I will get a picture of the axles tomorrow and post them on here so I can make sure which ones I have.

I have included a picture of my axle housing. The first picture is the front axle housing and the second picture is the rear axle housing. Was wondering if someone can tell me which type of axle I have.

Front looks like a GM Corp 10-bolt to me as does the back. Definitely doesn't look like a Dana 44 up front. A shot of the outer knuckles would confirm that, but I'm pretty sure it's a 10-bolt.

*EDIT* - I took a look in my photobucket account and found the picture of the donor Corp 10-bolt and then went out and snapped a picture of the Dana 44 in the front of my '74.

Here's a picture of the Corp 10-bolt I bought for $30 to get the 8-lug outers, brakes, etc to swap to my Dana 44 when I put my 14BFF in the back:

And here's a picture of the Dana 44 in the front end of my '74:

Notice the lack of little ears off the bottom side of the center section & the deeper plug weld holes on the front of the center section on the Dana 44. Also note the shape of the diff cover. The Dana 44 is a narrower cover than what is used on the Corp 10-bolt.

You have a Corp 10-bolt front axle.
