Post GM 32 CEL code and the EGR system

Need some assistance. Sorry it's been a while since I've posted here, as I've been slowly working out the kinks on my '94 Fullsize Blazer (350 TBI Vortec engine) over the past few months and I've got it down to 1 final problem (I hope). The only code I'm receiving now from the ECM is a 32 code. The thing I don't understand is, it simply says "EGR System Failure". From what I have been able to research I can only find 2 parts pertaining to the EGR system. 1 is the EGR solenoid, and the other is the Valve body itself. Am I missing anything else? And if not, which of these should I replace first. I'm assuming the solenoid first since it's a cheaper part and secondly controls the EGR Valve.

Has anyone ever dealt with this in the past? Is my thinking correct, or should I just buck it up and replace them both at the same time?

If someone could let me know I'd greatly appreciate it.

If you have a vacuum gauge and a hand vacuum pump, you can test the solenoid and the valve. The valve should hold vacuum pretty much indefinitely and should move when vacuum is applied to it. The solenoid should open when powered up and seal shut when not powered up.

Thanks Swart... Unfortunately I don't have either handy. A friend of mine suggested the same process, and said that if I don't have them I could do it by sucking on the hose and seeing if it moves and stays put... Don't know if that will truly get me anywhere which is why I've turned to here...

A gauge is really all that is necessary. You can use an engine manifold vacuum source to pull the vacuum on the components and a pair of pliers to clamp the lines off while testing for leaks. A gauge can be picked up for around $20.

Swart... Went ahead and got both solenoid and valve a few minutes ago... Heading out on a trip this weekend, so I really wasn't going to have time to procure the gauge and run all the checks tonight...

Thanks for the advice however I have 1 more question... If I still get the 32 code after replacing both, is there anything else I might be missing? Don't think so but still wanted to check with the resident genius...

Could be a wiring problem if a replacement valve/solenoid doesn't cure the problem.

Swart,

So here's where I'm at after this weekend. Got the parts installed, and my truck is now running like a champ... Don't know if it was the EGR system or the PCV valve that was making it run so rough, but now after replacing the parts I have no more shuddering, shaking and good power at all stages. However I'm still getting a "rogue" 32 CEL error... The reason I say rogue is this...

Memphis to Nashville Friday (225 miles) 32 CEL code
Nashville to Elizabethtown KY Saturday morning (132 miles) No 32 CEL code
Elizbethtown KY to Nashville Saturday afternoon (132 miles) 32 CEL code
Nashville to Byhalia MS Sunday evening (225 miles) No 32 CEL code
Byhalia MS to Memphis TN this morning (15 miles) No 32 CEL code

So I guess I'm wondering if I should worry about this any further... Your thoughts???
