Driving the jimmy today and the jimmy just died. Didn't studder like out if gas. Check spark plugs. Can get it running with starter fluid but wont stay running. Fuel pump kicks on. Changed the fuel filter with a duralast one.

Was told it could be a clogged fuel filter. Was wondering what some other things to check. Been driving the jimmy for about 4the days with new fuel filter before todays. Any help would be appreciated as soon as possible need to get it moved from current location.

Thanks

1990 gmc jimmy 5.7l

Pump kicks on, but do you have fuel spraying from the injectors? The TBI engines need at least 9psi to operate properly. If you aren't getting fuel spraying out of the injectors, testing fuel pressure as well as testing for power to the injectors would be high on my list of to-do's.

I disconnected the engine side of the fuel filter and then turned the key on and fuel was not follwoing out of the filter. I am assuming the pump is bad. Going to be changin it tomorrow

It is probably the pump. The same thing happened to my old 1990 Blazer, and it turned out to be a weak fuel pump, even though I replaced the fuel filter. Let us know what happens.

I replaced the fuel pump. Then I had to jump it off and it started right up. I think my battery may be gone from trying to start it so much. will find out tomrrow.

Thanks for all the help.

I got the jimmy to run after I changed the fuel pimp and jumped it off with my wifes van. I am know having trouble starting it. I get in turn the key to start and it just clicks after about 5 min or so it will start up. After I drive where I am going about 20 min and turn it off it still wont start right back up. I charged the batter and the batter is at 13 volts when the truck is not running I tested it with a meter. I turn everything power wise off.

I was wondering if anybody has an idea on wont could be the problem.

Do you mean the truck will crank, but not start up, or it won't even crank? If it doesn't even crank, it sounds like you have a bad starter.
