Hello all, Im new here and Im working on a 1983 K-5 Full size Chevy Blazer Four wheel drive for a older man, heres what i have going on, the blazer came stock with a tilt column, the column is wore out and the steering wheel has become very loose, must be the tilt has wore out and the wheel wobbles form side to side, so i pick ep a straight column at a salvage yard which the salvage yard said it would work up the year of the truck im working on (1983) but the ignition switch, not where the key goes but, the part that has the wire harness plugs into which also has the rod that connects to the key, seems to be different, will the two inner change between the straight and the tilt, thank you

 

I'm not too sure to be honest. But most of the time when the steering wheel becomes loose,is because of 4 bolts down inside the column backs out. All you have to do is re tighten em down and your done.

 

If you get a column from the same year everything should swap over exactly. I don't know when the columns changed but there is a difference. From what I know after 78 the columns changed due to stalk controls.

I swapped out a straight column for a tilt column in my 86 K5, the column came from an 86 pickup.

You can tear down the tilt column and tighten the three screws that hold the tilt mechanism in place. It is typical for drivers to use the wheel to pull themselves into the vehicle. Over time it will wear things out and loosen those bolts.
