rotted body mounts
so i was looking today and apparently some of the mounts that connect the body to the frame are rotted. are there kits anywhere to fix them because in PA where inspections are too strict for someone to have a cheap beater to drive around i dont think it would pass inspection.
its the 78 k5 4x i bought yesterday. there strips of metal that go to the frame. there pretty thick but there so soft. and when i sit in the truck it apparently makes the body drop lower because its not hooked to the frame properly.
I hate to say this, but all your body mounts, and bracing will probably have to go. I just got done rebuilding my floor which started as a patch job on the floor pans, but turned into replacing everything. You can get all the floor braces from LMC, or several other sources, but you will need to figure out ahead of time exactly what needs to be replaced. That will be tough with the floor still in the truck. As much as this will hurt, unless you have a mig welder, and a ton of air tools, you will probably spend a grand minimum to get it back fairly close to stock. Let me know what you are thinking about doing, and I'll do my best to help.
This is probably close to what you have going on?

This is what I ended up having to do.

And followed with Raptor bedliner

With steel, epoxy primer/sealer, and bedliner, it only ran around $150, but it took me over 50 hours, and alot of sweat.

nope my floors have been completely redone. its about 250 dollars worth of stuff i need. that lmc truck is hard to find parts on. my floor does have 1 hole but tomorrow im getting a mesh to put over it and some bondo.the back is the bottom of a truck bed just welded in, it doesnt look the best, but for 600 i couldnt get a running vehicle that looked half as good as this and didnt need a grand to get it running right.
I haven't seen the frame sections for the body anywhere. Maybe because they are typically not a part that will be replaced often. The front and rear supports running side to side are availible but not the braces that run front to back. I would use square tubing or something similar, and weld them in. It sounds like you just need to add some support where the factory rails are giving a little. Just make sure you seam seal all the joints, and paint so water doesn't get in any of the seams between panels. My Blazer's previous owner had skimmed bondo over the entire floor and painted it, hiding the damage and allowing it to hold moisture until it was too far gone. When the damage is bad enough like mine, it's easier to start from scratch.
I had a similar issue on my 89 being a northern truck. The 4 middle body mounts were so rusted i broke the bolts. I cut the bottom out of the support channels and cut a hole above so i could remove the old hardware. Then i used flat stock and rebuilt the channels farther back to add some strength as well.
