Default Speedometer bounces

Hello. When i purchased my truck the speedometer was not working. So this morning i went out there to figure out why. Well I took the cable out and the cable looked fine. I noticed there was a adapter on the t-case. I took the adapter off and screwed the cable into t-case. Started it up and went driving. BINGO it works, sort of. The needle bounces as it moves up. Is my guage shot?

my speedo on my blazer does the same thing. i sprayed sum lube down the inside of the cable housing and it helped a lil but it would take so much wd to make it work perfect i just said screw it and i drive by tach now, lol. ur cable is probably sticky and gummed up with years of crap getting in there. id replace the cable, they arent expensive.

When i pulled the cable out it did feel very tacky and gummed up. I think im going to use some break cleaner to clean it up and then put on some lithium grease or liquid graphite. Thanks guys.
