Stalling Problem

I ran out of gas last week and since then my 73 will not stay running. It will idle for about 20 seconds perfectly then it will just stall out, I have put in a fuel filter because it didn't have one before, I also cleaned the carb, does anybody have any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Itake it it has the orginal Rotchester carb on it? if you give it gas will it keep running or still stall? is the choke opening? does it have points of HEI?

sensesfail85 03-15-2009 06:30 PM

sorry, it is an edelbrock carb

Same questions as above plus some more.

Is the choke operational? Electric or mechanical on the choke?

this is my first car with a carb, i'm not sure where that is or which one it is. it was running like a new before i ran out of gas

Maybe still getting slugs of air in the fuel lines then...

The other questions still remain... Please answer them.

If you pour gas down the carb will it stay running?

just got done checking the fuel lines and they were all clear, just to let you guys know i know nothing about carbs

What do you mean by "all clear"?

Have you tried dribbling fuel down the carb? If you do this, can you keep it running?

When I rebuilt the carb on my 74 K5, it took a bit to get the carb full. It would run then stall. It took a good 10-15 tries at this before it would run.

i will try that, the fuel lines had no restrictions in them, i was able to blow through them without a problem.
