steering colum '87 blazer
just bouhgt '87 k5 blazer silverado,the key in the ignition turned,and thats all it did.It turned like there was nothing connected to it and did nothing,I'VE TAKEN STEERING WHEEL OFF AND I'M AT THE IGNITION MECHANISIM.my q1uestion is there a rod that goes down the shaft to ignition switch,and how to do it? thanks for some help

You really didn't need to pull the steering wheel to mess with the ignition switch. It is located on top of the column about halfway between the front of the dash and the firewall and can be accessed from under the dash.
The switch itself is actuated via a rod that goes up into the column. It should connect to an arm that protrudes from the column which moves as you turn the ignition switch.

Yea if that rod is connected and it feels like its turning without any resistance its probably the ignition switch.
