Default Transmission question?

I have a 86 k5 the motor and transmission have been swapped out wit a 350 and 350 turbo trans. I drove it for the first time today and it runs and shifts fine but it seems that its stuck in a low gear cause at 40mph it seems like its running 3500-4000rpms(just guessing) but its shifting into all gears. There is no front drive shaft in it yet and seems to be in 2hi. Please any info would be great? IT HAS AUTOMATIC HUBS TOO

There is a Detent cable that tells the trans when to shift. You might need to adjust it? You press the metal lock tab and hold it. Slide it back away from the carb untill it stops and then release the tab. Then open the throttle up to full and this adjusts it. Be sure to do this with the engine off lol.

the trans shifts thru all the gears its just at 40mph it seems to be running 3500-4000rpms will that cable do that?

if your running a 350 turbo it only has 3 gears, and has a kick down cable unlike the 700r4, what i would do is install a aftermarket tach and verify your RPM, do you know if the axle ratio is stock of have you regeared them?

sounds about normal to me depending on what gear ratio you have. i have a 86 k30 with 4.10 gears 33 inch tires and a th400 which is similar to the th350 gear wise. anyways yeah anything over like 40-45 mph it seems like its screaming. its at about 3000rpms at around 60-65. so other then local driving it sucks. so if you got 373s or 410s in them axles seems normal to me. wouldnt hurt to get a tach anyways.

i dont think so cause there is only 3 different tcases available for that trans stock and all of them use a shifter specifically for that case unless someone moved a sticker over for some reason but doubt it

Hey I have a 79 k5 I just put a 383 stroker motor in it, it has the same 350 tc in it that was in it before. I went to go drive it for the first time today and it gets up to third gear quick and hits 35-40 mph and its at 3500-4000 rpm if I try to push it past that it shutters and let's out a huge backfire. I can't tell you if it has stock gears I bought it with a 3 inc lift and 33s on it . I do have a 6 inc lift and will he ordering 35s soon. How do I stop this and how should I set it up to prepare for my 35s.
