Default 2001 blazer heater core

Hi, im doing the dreaded heater core, my local dealer quoted me $175 for the part, should I go this route or something else, I was expecting $50 or so.. also while the dash is removed I would like to fix the problem of no heat to the floor (separate issue from core) what do I need to fix this? Thanks in advance..

175 for the part?! Dont go to the stealership for the part... Go to oriely or napa. Save yourself 125. as for the heat not working on the floor. It is most likely your blend door that is not functioning.
Search the forum and you should find results for that.

Any particular brand(s) to stay away from? As many of you know its not a job you want to do twice..
Your right about the no heat to floor issue, the linkage seems to be stripped from the door its not engaging..I searched alot on both of these topics but just wondering if there is a specific part number or numbers for the heat door repair, thanks for your input..

Here's the culprit, is this part sold individually?

To make this thread useful to someone someday the heat flapper is part# 52470781 and the heater core part # is 52473178. Thanks!

Glad you got it figured out. I hope you did not go the dealership route for the heater core. Good luck on getting that thing in.
I am lucky in the first gen I dont have to remove the dash!

Ya I bit the bullet n bought at the dealership, the guy knocked 10% so in the end I paid about $50 more than I would have at say Amazon.com.. thing is I want to get the job done this weekend n they had it in stock soooo....
I looked into a couple after market models but was kinda spooked after reading about issues with fit and reliability, obviously dont want to do this again!
Honestly the disassembly of the dash and removal of core and flapper was a piece of cake, I do however have a haunting feeling about putting it all back together as I didn't label anything or take notes or pictures, could be a long weekend ......

I had no heat last night either, but 10 min later with a garden hose and I was in business. These things clog up with flakes of deathcool for some reason. I am 3/3 with s10s/blazers for doing this. Just take the hoses off the intake and water pump and hose away till the chunks flop out and your in business again.

Just changed mine on my 98 its not an easy task for sure yet doing it yourself can save alot.I was going to buy one from the dealer only because after doing this you dont want to ever do it again so you want a good one. Well they said $171.00 for the core No way I settled for advanced auto and got it for$ 51.00. The job took me 2 days approx 12hrs ( between an occasional beer and an FU ). I have it all back together yet I missed a ground wire somewhere so some gauges are not working and I have to go back in . You need any advice on where hidden bolts are let me know been there done that.
