2001 purchase question
I'm new to the forum and have done some searching but I thought I ask about a 2001 Blazer in case I missed something.
I have a chance to buy a 2001 Blazer w/70k for the price carmax would give the seller ($4500). The only options listed on the sticker is On Star (MRSP around 30k). Services completed and owned by a retired couple. Is there anything that stands out as particularly unreliable for the 2001? Thanks for any info. John |
RE: 2001 purchase question
I say get it. Just keep an eye on the old 'intake gasket leak' problem that some of them develop. I'm guessing that it's a 2wd. If it's a 4x4, watch the ball joint wear.

Thanks for the info. It's a 4WD. I thought they all were.

RE: 2001 purchase question
Blazers can be 2wd or 4wd. 4wds like to go through front end parts so have that checked out too.

RE: 2001 purchase question
thats a good price if nothing is wrong with it... book value is around $8,000.... a little under..... with it being sold tha tcheap I would worry that there might be something mildly wrong with it... maybe it has been in an accident or something, but there is nothing wrong with rebuilt vehicles...

You should also be aware that the gas milage is poor.

RE: 2001 purchase question
Thanks for all the info. I know the car's history (girlfriend's grandparents). It seems like it's too good to pass up but I wanted to be sure they werent prone to very expensive problems.
Thanks for the help. |
RE: 2001 purchase question
My 01 Jimmy has bad gas mileage problems (usually 200/tank or less), you also have to make sure it starts up every time and doesn't hesitate to turn over. Leaky fuel injectors/fpr are a known issue too. When I bought mine I changed air/oil filters, cleaned out the airbox (had a nest in it), and flushed the coolant. It'd be a good idea to do the same. Mine is 4wd but the previous owner took care of the front end suspension so I haven't had to do much except brakes/rotors. Good luck!

RE: 2001 purchase question
I would jump all over that. I bought my 2001 w/99K miles a month ago for $6700. I love it! Biggest thing that I have read on is the Heater Core leaking (thought I had that issue, turned out to be a bad sensor on the AC letting water condense inside the air ducts when the AC would turn off randomly ($5 part). The heater core is not easy from the looks of it and expensive to have the dealer fix.

RE: 2001 purchase question
I have an 2001 4x4 and have no problems with it. Just the normal wear and tear items like balljoints had to be replaced. But for the price of that blazer is pretty cheap. I would def buy that truck. What color is the Blazer?

RE: 2001 purchase question
Thanks for all the info. I look forward to trying the 4WD, although there's not much use for it in Texas.
nj, It's gray w/very dirty gray leather interior. |

RE: 2001 purchase question
Get carmax's warrenty if you want. I dont trust their pre inspections. My Sonoma has a bad main seal that leaked oil onto the exhaust pipe and also a bad transmission.
