Default 2002 Chevy Blazer Xtreme

Hello everyone,

My son is looking to buy his first vehicle. He has found a 2002 Blazer Xtreme. I don’t know anything about Chevy’s we have always owned Dodge. I would like everyone’s advice about this vehicle, pro’s and con’s, what are the most common issues and repairs to expect. Thank you in advance.

Common problems with higher mileage:

Lower intake manifold gaskets (LIM)
Drivers door hinge bushings
Fuel pump
Idler arm
Vacuum hoses
Coolant sludge from mixing coolants
Injector spider

The LIM gaskets and idler arm are the only thing that I consider a design/quality defect. Idler arm is common to a lot of GM products of this era and older.

I also had an early wheel hub and radiator. In all most people here like their trucks. I have a 2002 with 210,000 miles on it. It has been a good truck.

The rust will come up from under the plastic skirt kit of the extreme, also it does not have as big as a load rating, so as long as he doesn't need to bring alot with a full load of adults, then he's good. Ride height might be a concern with how much snow you guys get.

The "rarerity" of extreme models( my area atleast), make it less comon then the typical 2door blazer and Jimmy's, but can still use their parts depending on what your looking for.

The work isnt hard to do with a little bit of help on certain things, the parts are very commonly accessible, mechanical wise atleast.

if the price is good, I would go for it...
