Default is the 7.5 really that bad?

I'm starting a build, I'm gonna have 4wheel parts put a truetrac in my 97 because I don't mess with diffs or transmissions.. I eventually wanna get the cast iron front housing from a 4x4 5 speed, I like the idea of sas but don't see myself going over 31" tires an I'm not gonna be rock crawling either. Has anyone has issues with their 7.5s? I hear alot of people swapping 8.5 or 8.8s and don't wanna waste my money polishing a turd, if the 7.5 is a turd indeed..

Thank you,
James

For the price you are going to pay to have a true Trac installed in your 7.5 you can almost certainly find and install an 8.8 out of an explorer that will already come with a factory locker and be substantially stronger. That being said I have seen many people run the 7.5 behind ls motors and such without any breakage or issues as well.

If you source an iron front diff, very good chance the rear will be 8.5/8.625. Plus you could swap to rear discs if you want.
