Default Adding factory roof rack to rackless Blazer

I'm currently looking at a Blazer for sale that did not come with a factory roof rack. From what I read if I want to add a factory rack to it I would have to drill holes in the roof, correct? Is that the only way?

The factory rack mounts to threaded inserts in the roof, so drilling holes is about your only option. But as long as you seal them up well, I can't see how that would cause any problems.

Nutserts and the nutsert tool aren't very expensive, and they're easy enough to use.

DID they sell them WITHOUT roof racks? Man, you're lucky. Well I guess not if you want to put one on. I'm the other way. I like the cleaner look of taking it off. I consider those stock roof racks next to useless for any real hauling. And I found on my first blazer with a sunroof (which I also hate but that's a different story) That with it full open the cross piece would buffet from the wind and make a mind numbing hum/vibration. Of course that was before I realized you could move the damn things. But I like the clean look better anyway. Just took mine off saphire in november.

I'm a bit leery of drilling through the roof. To me it's kind of like a sunroof, fine for a long time but may eventually leak. The factory design sounds much better.

They did but in my experience they are very few and far between. Just luck of the draw I guess.

That looks like a no-frills base model. That probably explains the lack of a roof rack.

Exactly. It also had a bench seat like a truck and no console. I was surprised to see that it had power locks and windows.
