Default Air Conditioning

Hi, I am new to these forums, and blazers, as I just bought a 95 4x4 last night, I wont have it until This weekend though. I've been told the Air Conditioning does not work, and it was making a whistling noise. The used car lot removed the part that was broken and making the whistling noise but I am not sure what the part was. I am fairly mechanically inclined, or at least able to remove and install parts and I was thinking I would just repair this myself so that when the summer comes and Im driving to the cottage, I can the leave the sports car and home and not worry about sweating my *** off in the truck. So my question is does any one know what part they removed, or can someone point me to a diagram of the a/c system so I can see what parts are missing etc.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Ill post my truck up when I get it under the new members threads

Easiest thing to do is to ask them exactly what they removed when you go to pick up your truck.

Agreed. It could be any number of things. Air conditioning isn't the easiest thing to fix so I'd ask. Plus it's big bucks, so you don't want to replace something that doesn't need replaced. But if it was a major part, you may as well do the whole thing, just depends on budget and what it was.

What other problems might they have 'fixed'? Unless you are set on having this particular Blazer, it might be better to find one from another dealer that actually knows what they are doing. It's not like there is a shortage of used Blazers out there.

That was the only part he took off. Brakes have been replaced, exhaust is fine, 4 wheel drive. The A/C wasnt required for a safety, and by taking this part out, it was just quieter which is fine. I just thought it would be something interesting for me to tackle this spring, expand on my automotive knowledge. The guy at the car lot, seems to say it how it is and is pretty straight forward. Yes he is still a car salesman but he is one of the better ones Ive talked to.

The biggest problem that I would have with this is that you really do not know what they have removed. Could be a fuse or relay. Or it could be the compressor and all lines (bad). It could have been done due to a leak or simply because it was easier than refilling the system.

With the complexities of A/C systems, it is very difficult to walk you through this type of thing over the internet.

Keep us posted. If you determine what was taken out and more importantly, why, then we can move forward from there.

He removed the Electric Choke, I believe that is what he called it. Ive already replaced it and the A/C seems to be working fine, I just went to a local scrap yard, matched the part they took out with one from a blazer there and installed it. We'll see how long it lasts in the spring, but it seems to be working now.
