Get in some sandy dirt and goose the throttle?

Which part of the 4x4 system are you trying to check? Are you suspecting your wheels arnt engaging or that the transfer case isnt shifting?

Get stuck in 2wd, then put it in 4wd, if you're still stuck, you either went too deep, or the 4wd is shot.

I have the shift 4x4, and I was messing with it today and the lights on the panel don't work. I put it on 4 high, drove a little, stopped, and then put it back in 2 high, but seeing none of the lights are working I really cant tell if it shut off. I may just be a little paranoid but don't want to be riding around in 4 wheel drive wearing the transfer case.

Drive in a circle slowly, about 10 mph, in 2wd first. Then put it in 4wd and you should feel it binding up, and kick back and forth... its kinda hard to explain but you can tell the difference if its working right.

so in 4wd I should feel it almost locking down a little? having to give it a little more gas?

better question, if I only had 2 jackstands could I test it by just jacking up the front end and starting it up to see if the wheels spin or not?

no just keep it at 10 mph, In 4wd you'll feel the front wheels grab then the rear and so on.

oh btw if you have a g80 rearend this test might not work so well!

this might be of help hope your 4wd is working!

why would the g80 affect the turn-test for 4wd? all that particular rear end will do is get power at BOTH rear wheels instead of one at that speed...
