Well yesterday the mower died

This is what happened I was cutting the grass and saw something move so I just let go of the handle and it stoped,It was a big *** black spider with a yellow strip on its back. So I got the raid and killed the s.o.b hate spiders with a passion.

So I tried to start the mower again well looking around to make sure there wasn't another one and it was dead, won't even turn over.So I pumped the primer again until I saw gas coming squat out of the carb.would start and die after 2-3 sec but if I pumped the primer it would keep running until I let go.

Mower Sears Craftsman 4.5 had it for two years now keep'ed it outside in winter etc and it has started every season until now

Things I've done

1,replaced spark plug making sure it had a good spark(nice and strong blue spark)
2,Took gas tank of and empty every drop of gas in it and checked the hose its still firm not spongy at all,

Now before I killed the spider I filled the mower up with gas that had been sitting there for 3 weeks or so, it started

Also when I emptied the old gas I took the feed hose from the bottom of the tank and put it in a bottle with brand new regular gas and ran it and it still would run for maybe 2-3 sec and shut down only would keep running if I keep'ed pumping the primer but if I let go it would shut right of.

I don't have $75 a hour shop rate to give the local old guy to tell me it was just old gas in the carb

I'm going to tomorrow to get some carb spray cleaner to see if that works, Have never rebuilt a carb before

What do you guys and girls think it is???

Could it be that flywheel key or what

Do you have the manual for the mower? It should have a troubleshooting section in it.
Is there a fuel filter inline?
Oil ok?
It's like any other gas motor, it needs compression, fuel, air and spark.

* I'm not fond of spiders either. I was bitten by a spider and it left a huge mark on my chest for a month!

check the air filter, as well, and if it has it, make sure that the fuel line screw is all the way open...

Is the spark plug getting spark? Check the cable for the handle, make sure it's pulling everything it needs to, all the way, to get the mower going

Definitely sounds like a fuel delivery problem as it will run when you are pumping the primer. I'd have to do some searchin' to figure out what to have you adjust or replace. There should be a fuel filter somewhere in between the tank and the carb.

I never have had my 6.5HP Craftsman push mower apart... Nor have I ever really messed with vertical shaft briggs motors. I do know a lot about the horizontal shaft motors, but I don't think a lot is shared as far as carb design is concerned.

No manual, but I guess I could look it up as I have the model number

See I don't know if there is a fuel filter

From the tank the the rubber hose goes to a L shape Zinc fitting and then into the carb, there is a white plastic pieace to

I'll get you some pictures,I'm don't want to play around with thouse setting srews at all as it was running fine before this happen'ed

Well this is all new to me to, as we've always just had a electric mower with a cord on a 150Ft lot LOL until two years ago

This bugs me because I got a 75% in small engines when I was in high-school

I was also thinking magneto is it giving enough spark to keep lighting the fuel and air mix well running

I’m just going to take apart the carb and look in it to see what’s in it if anything

I haven't had the cone style air filter on for about about 1 year and nothing has happened

No need to post numerous times... I realize that it may be difficult to quote numerous replies in one post, but that really isn't all that necessary either.

I'm going to see what I can find from my mower. But my mower doesn't have a primer...

Your carb should have a float and a fuel bowl on it. It is quite possible that the float has stuck shut, not allowing fuel to fill it.

Just took the carb of and see what he means by the fuel jet little blue hole,So I'm going to get some carb clearner and spray up that hole etc

Still never found a fuel filter unless this PVC plastic thing isit

heres some photos of the carb taken apart

As you see its pretty damn clean thats for sure so I'm really thinking its just that carb jet sucked some very old bad has up with some grass probly

Well, it looks like your float is moving down. Above the float right next to the pivot pin will be the inlet plunger.

How much fuel was in the float bowl when you removed it?
