For 2 1/2 years I've lived with the P1870 code. Time (& money) had come to sort it out.
A few months ago I had bought a spare tranny with torque converter & later imported a reconditioned valve body, Corvette servo & shift kit.
So, last week I dropped it all off with the tranny guys. They stripped off the front of the tranny & checked the condition of the frictions. They had to replace the forward & coast frictions then replaced the valve body, servo & shift kit. Total cost $434.50 incl GST (labour was 5.50hrs)
Yesterday they swapped the tranny & torque converter with the one in my truck. Cost $777.66 incl GST, labour was 8.75 hrs.
Funny thing is the cross member under the transmission is welded to the chassis whereas, I understand, later models had this bolted on. This of course made it difficult to remove the transfer case & tranny then the reverse to get it all back in.
Also, I had an aftermarket transmission cooler I was given by my son-in-law but they said it was better not to fit it as the cooler lines are the crimped type & would possibly leak if the auxillary cooler is fitted. I opted not to do this mod.
Anyway, I've only driven it home & it feels a lot smoother when changing & the revs seem lower/more stable as well so I look forward to doing a long run with it.
So, all in all:
Used transmission $563
Reconditioned valve body, 'vette servo & shift kit $375 (imported cost incl shipping)
Repairs $683 (including oil @ $99))
Remove & replace $777
Total cost $2398 Wow! Not cheap.
Now what's next on the list?

Need rear shackles to level out after t-bar crank. But maybe when I see tonyw's truck, (he just did the 2" body lift), I may go that route & then lower the t-bar back to where it should be.

After I had the tyres fitted. They were rubbing on my fender flares so I kept jacking up the t-bar till it stopped rubbing. 1 1/2"
Remember I've got those special flares all you guys want LOL and because my tyres are not in the wheel well but are out flush with said flares rubbing is an issue.
