Allright so i might be in the wrong forum but im new here so my appologies...

My parents bought me a 96 chevrolet blazer 4dr 4.3l vortec and i was in love with it.. but today i found out 2 bad things.... 1. I have an open diff which is gonna kill me when im going offroad with my friends range rover lol.. 2. I have no engine power.. I went ouside today in the pouring rain (i thought the wet concrete would help) and i tried to spin the tires.. well it failed, i tried just flooring it, and break standing it.. i had no results even on wet pavement.. well i cant do much cause im 15 and im under my parents reign and i cant tell them i have no power and i cant even get a little spin.. what should i do??

Stop trying to spin the tires.

/parental warnings

Make sure the truck is in good running shape before trying anything else.

Weren't you a teenager at one time?? Well it's in great condition, the engine has 65,000 miles on it and they were put on by my grandpa who drove like a grandma so no abuse done!

Yup, sure was. Long time ago. Was also making a joke there. Sorry, should have made that clear...

Anyways, does it have rear disc brakes? How hard were you stomping the brakes?

You cant keep head gaskets on em."
Well, that's true.. every aluminum head 3.8L made in the era of 92-95 is gonna lose head gaskets..
-BUT-
WRONG! The head gasket problem was a head gasket design problem. Exact same thing would have happened if the Windsor 5.0 had been produced with aluminum heads.
And it was fixed.. just like the 4.3 LIM gasket problem has been fixed and the name of the fix is "FelPro"

I totally didnt know the 3.8 was a 5.0 with 2 cylinders off. Are the pistons, rods etc the same? Interesting.

Back on topic. Another thing alot of people dont think about is the gearing. A 3.73 compared to a 3.08 with the same engine is going to spin tires off the line better then the 3.08. I have a 3.42,couple of decent mods etc and i can roast the one wheel tire peel all day long. I also know that everything in that engine is performing like it should. People will neglect the cars, then abuse them and wonder why they couldn't perform for nothing. While we are on gearing another problem with the full size trucks,Alot of them came with 2.73 gears. Which is a slug off the line, but amazing highway driving. I had a 91 chevy 1500 with the 5.7 rebuilt with mild head work and 2.73 gears. The truck had power, but once i changed over to 3.73's it opened her wide open. between that and 33" tires and 400 turbo trans i was turning 3500 rpm at 60 mph.

try reving it to 2k while holding the brake and then stomping it...i did that today in my blazer and got it to spin all the way to 40, chirp going into second (i let off for a second then floored it again) and then it spun from 40-60. mines a 2wd though so it's probably a bit lighter. No mods though just the stock 190hp, vortec. The things 250ftlbs torque comes in at only 2800 RPMS so the more you rev it before you take off the more it'll spin.

No, it's automatic. Is this the way your supposed to do it? Start out at a stop, rev the engine to a high rpms while using the brake to compensate for it then release the brake.. If not then I feel dumb lol
