here we are debating the use of old/new oil on the seal when changing the filter, and what do i see this morning when i'm putting on new Winter rubber @ my friend's shop..........he dips his finger in the old oil to lube the seal! FUN-EEE!

just thought i'd share that with you. kinda ironic don't cha thick?

lol. that's funny. I also have to agree it's pretty funny how we turned this guy's thread into what to use as a gasket lube debate.

I must say the screwdriver is usually the last resort for me.. ive noticed k&N sells oil filters with nuts on the end... maybe he should invest in one of those for the next oil change

but if the screwdriver doesn't do the trick, how do you think that shallow nut on the bottom of the filter would be any better?

that filter must have been really tight. Somebody must have used a strap wrench to put it on. I change oil every day at a dealer and have never had this problem. Ive had a fair share of tight ones but never actually broke the can off. The tool shown in the link he posted works amazingly good.

hey all i got it off but it was on there really good ,i had a co worker help me he said he had a small torch we could use to heat it up .we got it off the next night .new one is on and i put some lube abound the seal.
