Default distributor life span

General question here for the forum...

What is the typical lifespan for a distributor on the 4.3 motor? I'm just curious to know what people think.

Thanks,
Larry

depends on how long the gear takes to wear out. Less time if you use thicker than 5w30 oil.

Mine is OEM with 210,000 miles. I did replace the gear when I was learning about CMP retard but it was not necessary and did not make any difference.

I changed mine out around 200K miles. Bought it in an arid state and it was fine. Moved to a humid state and got tired of having to replace the cap and rotor once a year. Ended up getting an aluminum billet one from Summit Racing with a screen that doesn't get blocked. Couldn't be happier with it. Now live in an arid state again. I also only use brass contacts in the cap and rotor instead of the stock aluminum crap.
