Do you have an inverter mounted in your rig? Was it worth the install?

For those that have a power inverter permanently mounted in your truck/blazer, was it worth the install?

I have a small one (400W) that didn't really require much installation. It's permanently mounted and hard wired, but it wasn't really very involved. I've considered putting a bigger one, but I only have one battery, and I'm not sure how well something like a 2000W one would work.

Where do you have your inverter mounted? What do you usually power with it?

It's mounted in the cargo area. Mostly, I use it to power a Hot Logic food warmer while I'm on the trail.

With an inverter, is an upgraded alternator needed?

It probably wouldn't hurt. I have an AD244 alternator, but my inverter only draws like 20 amps. So I'm sure it would be fine with the stock one.

Carry a 250w for quick charging battery banks if needed, I just still have no real need for 120v while camping here up north in AZ

Wonder what the max should be but I figured 250w was safe.

That's a good idea. I hear of people bringing coolers and small fridges even but it must be nice to have a food warmer on a cold day.

I have a refrigerator, too, but it runs on 12V.
