Default What cat converter do I need?

Does anyone know what catalytic converter (aftermarket) works on a 97 s10 blazer 4.3 litre without turning the "service engine soon" lite on ?

Magnaflow Part No. 99006HM. about 90 bucks. Needs to be welded in,or a walker cat kit thats bolt on for 200 bucks.Part No. 15827

Got info from advanceauto. You can get it cheaper there if you use coupon codes (google them, they are everywhere). Its a good way of saving money!

Default thanks

yeah, had it replaced about 3 years ago twice, not sure of brand, but the first one kept the SES lite on constantly. They replaced with another brand and with that one, the SOS lite would come then after running at high speed (70-75) it would go off. But not too long after that, it would come on again. I fought this for 3 years. That why I am asking. Thx for the info. Will try magnaflow.

Or just put a cheater sensor in there post-cat & be done with it.

Or instead of putting a cheater sensor in buy a set of spark plug nonfoulers (most parts stores have them in the HELP section) of the right diameter and thread for about $5. drill one out completely and thread it INTO the one that you didn't drill. then thread that into your exhaust, and put the 02 sensor on the back side. It effectively moves the o2 sensor out of the direct stream and restricts the amount of flow to it. I used this method (and it worked) on a race vehicle i built with NO cat but i didn't turn the programming off in the ECU.

Default update

Thx Mike and smitty. Found out it is a magnaflow cat on it. They are going to put a simulator on, post cat. The cat is 5 yrs old. Didn't realize that until I checked receipt. I will replace cat and go with the simulator to correct problem.
Question: Will I know when the cat is ready to be replaced when its time,(used up) with a simulator on it?

Mike, I have same colored blazer as u, only a 97, 2 door version. Love it.

Take care.

Thx

The only TRUE way to know if the cat is for sure used up is to have it taken apart by a specialist....The car will give you a good idea though (lack of power, Cat may rattle, Cat excessively hot) I'll be honest though i just had my cat replaced 3 weeks ago, and it's the first time in the trucks life the exhaust system has been touched since it was built. so 13 years and 145k miles it lasted.....truck will likely be worn out before another cat goes bad.
