Default Extended Warranties

First, I am puzzled in how I even got this thing...must have gotten it from the state that I just bought my Jimmy....but I got a postcard from Auto One Warranty Specialists wanting to sell me a warranty for up to 250,000 miles...anyone have experience with this type of thing.

Yea the only extended warrenty you want to go with is if it is offered when you buy the car by the dealership.

You have to really read the TOS and what is covered as well as what is NOT covered. I had a VehicleOne warranty on my Bonneville and I must say that the warranty paid for itself in the first month when the power steering rack went out ($1700 for the rack dealer cost!!). Through various other problems with the car, it was a definite good buy. Cost me $1100 total when I bought the car and paid out over $4500 in repairs until I sold the car. Best part... There was still 25k miles left on the warranty when I traded the car in. A $700 check was mailed to me after the dealership mailed them the mileage statement!!

Do your homework and definitely check over the covered and not covered items. Aftermarket warranties aren't all out to get you. I'm thinking about getting one for my Rainier which is now at 31k miles.

There are definitely some good extended warranties out there, especially some non-dealer ones. Check out Auto Advantage or Warranties 4 Wheels. They both have been around for a while (a commone issue with aftermarket warranties is the likelihood of the company going out of business and leaving you cashless and warranty-less). If you're curious about the quality of the warranty, check and see if it covers Range Rovers. If they do, it's a good one (high repair cost means lots of companies don't support Rovers).

I researched em for my 01 RR, and it was gunna run me 4700 for another 75k miles or something wildly over priced, so I took my chances...now 3 repairs and $3100 later, I regret not getting that warranty [:@].

Like swartlkk said, read the terms and conditions, and do some what-if scenarios with the company if you can get a customer service rep on the phone!

Edit: In case it needs to be said again, DO NOT fill out the mailed solicitation. Do your own research!

I get about 6 different post cards every 5 months on my different vehicles asking me to buy warranty. Straight in the trash it goes. If you have a house you will get them for it too.

If you want one, Credit unions have some awesome warranty plans that will pay you part of the money back after it's end if you don't use it. You have to have your vehicle financed through them I think. I would have gone with it, but I voided my factory warranty the first week I brought the Z home, so I wasn't going to worry with one at all and I can't remember if they offered one when I bought the Blazer.
