Foolish to buy a ZR2 Blazer with 151,000mi on it?
Hey everyone, new to the forum here but I do currently own a beater '95 S10. Plan on upgrading to a newer Blazer soon, and I found one with 151,000mi on it that's a decent price. Is it foolish to buy one with this many miles on it if I want to put some money and parts into it to make it into a nice vehicle?
How many miles does your Blazer have?

Well I don't want to get too into the listing, but $3200 and "I just put in a 4WD front differential that has about 100 miles. It has new brakes, GM fuel pump, ball joints, tie rod ends, intake manifold gasket and rear main seal. This truck was maintained and serviced by GM certified mechanics and the oil has been changed every three thousand miles."
I'm worried about the transmission.

Yes, the price is definitely a factor. I'd have a good inspection done for a couple hundred. Here's a summary of my experience:
Planned to buy a 2002 2 door RWD from my SIL's estate for $1,500; book value was about $3k. Had the inspection done and it found a lot of work that wasn't quickly evident. Broken motor mounts, leaking oil pan, rear main seal; none of which I could do. Bought it for $500 after getting the quote and had the work done, including a bit more, for $1,900. 500 miles later the fuel pump died. Too much to list.

I used to work at a Chevrolet dealership, so I know my way around underneath a vehicle to some degree. I've replaced oil cooler lines so I'm definitely aware of leaks and such. I would be doing a good inspection on the vehicle.
Main reason for making the thread was typically the life of these vehicles, and how long a transmission will typically last. I know there are a lot of factors, though.

Well, I bought my 98 blazer zr2 4 years ago with 262,000 KM on it, and its over 300,000 KM now, and engine/trans wise, I haven't had much problems. I do my tune ups and fluid changes regularly. It does depend how badly/good they have taken care of it too!
151,000 Mile = 243,011 Km so you're good for a while still. :P

I put about 225K miles on mine before the tranny started acting up. Had it rebuilt with some upgraded parts.
You'll be hard pressed to find any Blazers these days with less than 100K on them unless the price is ridiculous.

2200.00 for my 2000 with 141,000, maybe got lucky cuz its a champ, everything works and is solid. Think its hit or miss. One thing, dont let things pile up, fix em right away. My second one, they`re good trucks when maintained

Yeah I'm just worried about the trans that's about it. Guy said he just replaced the differential 100 miles ago. Told him to find me the documentation on it and I'll come look and probably buy it. Mainly looking for one with no rust. I can do some mechanical work, but body stuff is beyond my ability.
