front wheels not engaging

my 2000 Silverado 4X4 not working. I replacedthe 4wd ACTUATOR and still front wheels not pulling.
I have manual shift lever and I put it in either 4l or 4h and 4wd light comes on but when im out in the mud in 4h front wheels dont turn. any ideas guys?

well, in 4wd are you getting vaccum to the acutator? in 4wd will the front driveshaft turn or is it "locked in"? with the cable unhooked from the acutator does it engage the locking ring when pulled? one way to check if the acutator is indeed engaging is to have both front wheels jacked up off the ground and the truck in 4wd. if the driveshaft wont turn (and it shouldnt in 4wd when parked) then when you free-spin a front tire, the opposite tire should turn in the opposite direction. if not then the axle-disconnect is still disconnected and theres a issue with the acutator system, weather its the cable, internal fork, sliding collar or vaccum to the acutator itself. ifthe axle is indeed coupled together and you have a free-turning front driveshaft, then you have some sort of transfercase problem.
