Default gas gauge...kinda weird?

I have a 4 door so 18 gallon cap, basic knowledge, on my gauge i have 1/4 tank left, so 13.5 gallons to fill her up right? wrong! it took only 11.3 gallons to fill up. i tried to search for an answer on to when the gas light comes on, like how much fuel is left in the tank and could not find it cause i hit a large hump in the road and did the notorious plunge to empty on the gas gauge, that i have read on...oh well

I'm pretty sure the low fuel light is based off the fuel level sending unit, and there are slight variances between vehicles fuel level sending units due to age, float height, etc. If your running it down until the light comes on its probably safe to assume 1-2 gallons max even though there may be more. You'll have to calculate for your vehicle, if you really need to know that bad

My dad said he got 10 miles out of the blazer with the light on. He was in a bind and only did it cause he had to, but at least I know now since I bought the blazer off him.

With these fuel pumps, never let yourself get to that point. Fuel cools the pump. Always keep at least a 1/4 tank of fuel onboard to make sure that the pump is cooled properly.

i put a bolt on fuel pump on the frame and i never have had a problem with over heating but my gas gage works some times and sometimes it gives a false reading i removed it and a wire rubbed a spot in the protective coating and it acts up now and then and they want like way to much for the fuel sending unit so i keep a check on the odometer as well......oh well.........ben512v.......oh i put heat shrink tubeing on the bad spot but it still does it at certain fuel levels.

my fuel light comes on when i have used up 14 gallons. So when I fuel up the tank will finish filling when approx 14 gallons have been put in. I think our tanks are 18 gallon, but they could be 16. So its either two gallons or 4 gallons left inside, depending on if your tank is 16 or 18 gallons. Also if you are facing down hill typically the light can come on before you used up your 14 gallons. When going up hill the gauge could read like you have more fuel than you really do. If on flat the light is on, then you know for sure.

Right now my gas gauge reads between 1/2 and 3/4. I have 350Kms on this tank of gas. So another 50km or so left.

Lets see...100km is 1/4. I don't think I have anywhere near 1/2-3/4 of gas... USE THE TRIP COUNTER!
