After some thinking I might be aquirering some 33x12.50. R15 tires from a friend. I go offroading with some friends with a 77' cj with 33's, a stock wrangler, and a early 80's cj with 30's or so. So far my blazer does great and my only obsticle now is my friends cj with 33's. If he gets new tires Im going to get his tires so Ill toss em on my blazer with heavy trimming. So my question is, will I have to regear for the tires, because I have the stock 3.42 gears? And I threw in a pic of my blazer on 31's and my friends cj running 33's.

The gears that would work out best for 33's are 4.11 gears. I would imagine that having your stock gears and 33's you will be fairly sluggish on and offroad. In 4lo you should be ok but 4hi will be dissappointing.

 

Oh, keep in mind that regearing does cost a fair amount in parts and labor.

Yeah I figured it would cost a lot, thats why I was asking if it was required. And what would be a rough estimate on parts and labor for regearing?

 

If I remember right from when I looked up gearing for mine, it was around $400-$500 for front and rear gear sets. http://www.ringpinion.com/ that is where I did my searching, I don't remember what sizes they have though

 

My front and rear 4.11 gears with master install kit was close to 600.00. But I installed the gears myself.

 

And if you're re-gearing, it would be a complete waste to go through all that and NOT put in a locker. LockRite lockers would be good, low cost locker front and rear

 

Cant I not get a front locker because I have an automatic and it probably has the aluminum front diff? and also this is just for measurements, is this the right requirements on sizing?Clicky

 

I would hesitate on putting a front locker in an aluminum front diff. I would definitely put one in the rear, though.

Instead of looking on ebay for gears/lockers, get a set of Yukon gears from a reputable place. You don't want "posilock". Lockrite, Detroit, Aussie, ARB, those are the names you want to look at.
